FLA Business Finance Code of Practice role for Head of Law

The FLA represents all of the UK's major asset finances and accounts for over 30% of fixed capital investment within the UK with annual business volumes in excess of £25 billion.

Its members include banks, subsidiaries of banks and building societies, the finance sections of leading retailers and manufacturing companies, and a range of independent firms.

They provide a wide range of facilities, including finance leasing, operating leasing, hire purchase, conditional sale, personal contract purchase plans, personal lease plans, secured and unsecured personal loans, credit cards and store cards.

The FLA's Business Finance Code sets out standards of good practice for the finance and leasing industry in the conduct of transactions with business customers.

The Code covers companies, other corporate bodies or unincorporated businesses, local authorities or the National Health Service who seek credit or leasing facilities for the purposes of a trade, profession, or public service activity.

Professor Davies, from Pontarddulais, who has been Head of the School of Law at the University since 1999, said: "It's an honour to be appointed to the role; the Business Finance Code is a major code that regulates asset lending in the private and public sectors, promoting good standards."

"This means driving a future of identifying and promoting good practice in liaison with technologists, lenders and the Office of Fair Trading – and it's a pleasure to be part of that agenda."
