Professor Iwan Davies

Professor Iwan Davies is Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Internationalisation and External Affairs). He specialises in Commercial Law and is the author of several monographs on commercial law, including Equipment and Motor Vehicle Leasing and Hiring (1997), Retention of Title Clauses in Europe (1999), Security Interests in Mobile Equipment (2002), Issues in Commercial Law (2005). He has published at the highest level in commercial law, including the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, the International Comparative Law Quarterly, Legal Studies, the Journal of Business Law. He has considerable research experience and was the Research Director for IP Wales. He is currently the convenor of the K Research Group within the University.
Professor Davies was a Commissioner on the UK Griffiths Commission on Personal Indebtedness and was also the national rapporteur for the UK on agricultural credit law at the XV International Congress of Comparative Law. Professor Davies has taught and presented papers at international conferences and other events in Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Israel. He has presented papers to UNIDROIT in Rome and to the UK Department of Trade and Industry. He is a practising barrister, specialising in commercial law and Chancery matters and has also drafted reform proposals aiming at preventing fraud in credit and security matters. He is a member of the Business Code of Practice Monitoring Group of the United Kingdom’s Finance and Leasing Association and has chaired many conferences for the asset finance industry. He is currently Chair of the Standing Committee on Legal Wales and sits on the specialist Wales Panel of the Law Society.
