How you will be assessed
All modules are examined principally by two forms of unseen examination. These are:
- The traditional, closed-book, written exam and
- The one-day take-home exam.
Most exams are held in May and June while some are held in January. In many modules, the exams are complemented by an essay which can be prepared over several months. Some modules incorporate some form of continuous assessment which can provide up to 30% of the final mark.
The one exception is the project which can be undertaken in the final year. This is an extended essay on a subject chosen by the student and approved by a member of staff.
The final degree classification is based upon performance in Levels 2 and 3, although performance in Level 1 is important for laying the foundational knowledge and skills crucial to success later on.
