KESS II for Students

KESS PhD and Research Masters Scholarships are collaborative awards with a company partner.

  • PhD or Research Masters scholarship
  • In collaboration with a company partner
  • Research specific to that business or its sector
  • Includes a postgraduate higher level skills award
  • Suitable for students living in the West Wales & the Valleys Region or adjacent Region and who are eligible to work in the area after their study period.
  • Must be a UK or EU citizen and be eligible for home/EU fees. 

Postgraduate Scholarships

PhD Scholarships

  • Leading to a PhD qualification
  • Value of Award: A stipend of £14,340 for 2017/18 (rising in accordance with inflation for the remaining two years). Each scholarship has an additional budget for travel, equipment/consumables and training to support your research. Fees for KESS PhD Scholarship holders are waived by Swansea University.
  •  Length: Full-time for 3 years. (Theses must be submitted 6 months after the funded three year study period)
  •  The achievement of a Postgraduate Skills Development Award (PSDA) is compulsory for each KESS scholar. (The PSDA is based on a 60 credit award)

Research Masters Scholarships

  • Leading to an MRes or MSc by Research qualification. (Applicants need only apply, they do not need to search for partners)
  •  Value of Award: A stipend of £11,472 for 2017/18. Each scholarship has an additional budget for travel, equipment/consumables and training to support your research. KESS Research Masters Scholarship holders do not pay fees.
  •  Length: Full-time for 1 year. (Research theses must be submitted 3 months after the funded one year study period)
  •  The achievement of a Postgraduate Skills Development Award (PSDA) is compulsory for each KESS scholar. (The PSDA is based on a 30 credit award)

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a KESS award, you must living, at point of entry, in the West Wales & the Valleys Programme Region or an adjacent Region and be eligible for Home/EU Fees.  You must also be entitled to take paid employment in the Wales & the Valleys Programme Region on completion of the scholarship. KESS

Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS) is a pan-Wales higher level skills initiative led by Bangor University on behalf of the HE sector in Wales. It is part funded by the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund (ESF) convergence programme for West Wales and the Valleys.
