Banwen Library is a branch of the South Wales Miners’ Library and is based at the DOVE Workshop, Banwen, 25 miles from Swansea in the Dulais Valley.
This was opened in 1989 to support the pioneering Community University of the Valleys. The library was enlarged and refurbished in 1993 and 2002.
We support Adult Education classes taught at the DOVE Workshop, and surrounding area.
However all Swansea University staff and students can use the library and its services. Banwen Library is OPEN TO ALL, and members of the public and local community are most welcome to visit as well.

Banwen library supports community based part time courses taught by the Department of Adult Continuing Education and is open to all.
The Department of Adult Continuing Education (DACE), work with learners on campus and in the community to provide opportunities for them to learn at a level at which they are comfortable.They work in close partnership at a range of community venues where adult learners can study in a safe, welcoming and convenient environment.
They offer a variety of courses at different levels, such as Astronomy, Counselling, Creative Writing and Literature, Egyptology, English as a Foreign Language, Environmental Studies, European Languages, History, IT and Multimedia, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Study Skills and Welsh Literature as well as the part-time BA (Honours) degree in Humanities, History and English.

Open Access Computing & Printing
There are three Open Access PCs in Banwen Library. They offer the full range of Open Access software, including: word processing, databases & spreadsheets, web browsers, networked databases and the Library Catalogue iFind
There is a black and white laser printer. Charges are 5p per A4. Payable at the Issue desk.
There are 4 study places in Banwen Library.
There is a photocopier available at the DOVE Workshop, which is situated in the second store room in the middle corridor. Photocopying costs 10p per A4 sheet and 20p per A3 sheet. You will need to speak to a member of DOVE staff to enable you to use this service.
There is ample free parking outside the building.
The building is fully accessible, and has an automatic door at the far end of the building, and all rooms are on one level.
