Universidad de Valladolid Overview

The history of the University of Valladolid stretches back over seven centuries during which time it has grown and flourished, thanks to its ability to adapt and expand, and thanks to the warm welcome afforded by its people. Today it is one of the leading centres of Higher Education in Spain, offering over 100 degrees, 17 post-graduate programmes and 50 masters, boasting a broad network of international relations, research centres, together with wide-ranging sports and cultural facilities and a rich architectural and documentary heritage. All of this combines to provide an outstanding academic environment, equal to the oldest universities in Europe in terms of history, excellence and quality of research.

Welcome and orientation days: a welcome day is organized at the beginning of September for full academic year and first term students and at the beginning of February for second term students.


Living expenses: approx. 350-400 € per month

Rental costs: approx. 200-250 € per month

Health insurance: European health insurance card for EU citizens and private health insurance for non-EU citizens.

The University has two canteens at the campus of Valladolid:

  • 'Alfonso VIII' University canteen- Paseo Prado de la Magdalena 6, 47011, Valladolid
  • 'El Apartamento' canteen - Camino del Cementerio 22, 47011, Valladolid

Meals costs approximately 6 €.

Most the Faculties and Schools of the University of Valladolid also have their own cafeteria where meals are served.

Accommodation search aided by the International Relations office

If the student wishes to, the University of Valladolid will help in the search of an accommodation. Different kind of accommodations are offered:

  • Individual room in a students flat, sharing kitchen, living room and bathroom. The approximate cost for a room is 200 € a month. Students usually have to pay a one month deposit on arrival.
  • University Residences offer single or double rooms with or without bathroom. The cost is about 300 € per person a month without meals or about 600 € a month including all meals. Payment is made monthly.
  • Accommodation with a Spanish family: including an individual room and all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will cost approximately 600 € a month.

Erasmus+ Grant - approx 280-430€

The Erasmus+ Grant is dependent on location, and varies in each country. It is available for students who decide to spend up to a year of their course in Europe in 2017-18 through the Erasmus+ programme. Students can receive grants of up to 380 euros per month for study, or up to 430 euros per month for student traineeships, depending on the country they go to. This grant is a contribution to the extra costs of studying abroad, which is why it varies by country.
