Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz Overview

With about 35,000 students from approx. 130 nations, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the ten largest universities in Germany. As the only comprehensive university in Rhineland-Palatinate, JGU combines almost all academic disciplines under one roof, including the Mainz University Medical Center, the School of Music, and the Mainz Academy of Arts.

JGU is a globally renowned research university of national and international recognition. This reputation comes thanks to its outstanding individual researchers as well as extraordinary research achievements in the field of particle and hadron physics, materials sciences, translational medicine, the life sciences, media disciplines, and historical cultural studies.

Erasmus+ Grant - Approx €300 per month

This bursary amount is dependent on location, and can vary. It is available for UK students who decide to spend up to a year of their course in Europe in 2015-16 through the Erasmus+ programme. Students can receive grants of up to 300 euro per month for study, or up to 400 euro per month for student traineeships, depending on the country they go to. This grant is a contribution to the extra costs of studying abroad, which is why it varies by country.
