Which embassy or Visa Application Centre should I apply to?

  • If you want to visit one Schengen country, apply to the Embassy or Consulate of that country
  • If visiting several countries, you should apply to the Embassy of whichever country is your ‘main destination’ (the country in which you plan to spend the most time during your trip)
  • If visiting several countries in the Schengen area without having a main destination, you should apply to the Embassy of the country where you will first enter the Schengen area

Where are the embassies or Visa Application Centres?

In most cases, you will have to apply through the VFS Global (Visa Application Centre) or an embassy in London.

The VFS Global office in Cardiff deals with these Schengen countries - Italy, Switzerland/Liechtenstein and Belgium.

The Embassies for the Netherlands and Norway have a Consulate based in Cowbridge (near Cardiff), where you can submit your application in person but you must book appointment in advance. The contact details are:

Sam Smith Travel, High Street, Cowbridge, CF71 7AE

Tel: 0871 226 0180
