Learn more about our seven week programme…

Week One – Your developing baby

Understanding the developmental journey of your growing baby means you are able to make healthy choices and provide empathic and responsive care from birth.

Week Two – Changes for me and us

Becoming a family is one of the most significant and demanding changes in adult life. We consider the practical and personal changes that women and men face when they become mothers and fathers.

Week Three – Giving birth and meeting your baby

Giving birth is probably the most profound event in human life. Understanding what the birth may be like helps mothers and fathers to make their own plans and preparations for coping with and managing what may happen.

Week Four – Place of Birth (including tour of local unit)

You should feel supported in your choice of setting wherever you choose to give birth. We explore and visit the options available to you locally.

Week Five – Caring for your baby

We look at the ways in which you as new parents will get to know your baby, seeing the world through your babies’ eyes, understanding their needs, their temperament and how they communicate.

Week Six – Your health and wellbeing

Bringing new life into the world is an extraordinary experience and can be deeply fulfilling; but it can also be difficult and demanding. We consider how new parents can take care of their own health and well-being.

Week Seven – People who are there for you

Many parents need access to a wider range of support and services and in order for parents to access these it is useful to know what services are available, where they are, what they are for and how to use them.
