Visit Sweden and study a Leadership in Crisis Management Module

Swansea University Health and Social Care 2nd Year Students will have the amazing opportunity to participate in a Leadership in Crisis Management Module, studying in Jonkoping University, Sweden. This trip is a great chance for our students to immerse themselves in a new culture, meet new people and take part in the extra module, all in a incredible setting, which was nominated for the "best student city in Sweden 2016" award. 

The visit is to run from the 6th-21st of May 2017, with students completing the module online by the 11th of June. Classes will take place each weekday between 10-12 and 1-3. For the remaining time students will have the possibility to take part in various cultural activities and trips, which could include;

Culture days, movie and quiz nights, a trip to Visingso Island and Granna, Hiking in Dumme Mosse (Stupid Marsh) and hiking Taberg Hill Top. Students will also have access to student accommodation and kitchen facilities throughout their stay at Jonkoping.

How much will it cost?

There will be personal costs as accommodation, travel and costs of living are different to those in Wales. However there is financial support to limit the impact of these costs. 

The trip includes use of student accommodation and kitchen facilities at the University, at a cost of 3000SEK (approximately £270). Students will also have to cover the cost of flights to and from Sweden and also any additional travel and activity costs while on the trip. Funding, including a £300 Global Opportunities Bursary and a further Widening Participation Bursary of £250 (if the student's household income is below 25k) will be available to cover some of the costs of the visit to Jonkoping.

Will I need to speak a foreign language?

All of the course will be taught in English, Jonkoping University is one of the largest International Universities in Sweden, with the majority of people communicating in English.

There may be opportunities to follow a basic language course during the visit (subject to availability).

How do I prepare for my time abroad?

Pre-departure briefings will be carried out and support provided by the IDO and the Internationalisation Officer in the College. A guide to studying abroad can be downloaded here.

Will I be provided with accommodation?

Yes, during your visit to Jonkoping you will stay at student accommodation and access to kitchen facilities will be available. This will be at a cost of 3000SEK (approximately £270).

How will it affect my academic studies?

The co-ordinators will organise your travel to minimise disruption to your studies. Some assessments may need to be moved.

Support will be provided by departmental staff and the Internationalisation Office.

You will be expected to attended classroom teaching for the Leadership in Crisis Management Module while at Jonkoping and this will be completed online on your return to the UK

What support does the College offer?

You will receive ongoing support with your application and while on your visit from the Internationalisation team with the College. The International Development Officer will also provide support with a Go Global Coordinator. You will also have a named representative in the host country who will oversee your visit.
