Welsh language opportunities

There are lots of opportunities to use your Welsh language skills (or to learn new ones!) at Swansea University.

Even before you arrive at Swansea, you can feel comfortable about speaking your preferred language by taking advantage of a Welsh medium interview.

If you are successful in securing a place on one of our courses, you’ll get a Welsh language pocketbook outlining important health and social care vocabulary. You can download this here: Gofalu Trwy'r Gymraeg/Caring Through Welsh

Our students are also offered the chance to have a Welsh speaking personal tutor, present essays and assessments in Welsh, and use Welsh language textbooks in the library and Welsh language software on the University PCs. Our optional Welsh in the Workplace module is also available to students who want to supplement their studies.

If you plan to study a course with a practical element – like Nursing, Midwifery, Osteopathy, Paramedic Science or any of the healthcare sciences, you can also use your language skills out on placement, and choose to have clinical practice assessments through the medium of Welsh and receive a Welsh speaking mentor.

Most importantly, all of these opportunities will make graduates from the College of Human and Health Sciences more employable - as they’ll be able to care for patients in their preferred language.

Please note: If you are planning to study at our Carmarthen campus, there are no halls of residence at the St David's Park site, but if you need to find somewhere to live, our staff will do their very best to help you find housing in the private sector.
