Jeyda Hunt, MSc Research Methods with Cognitive Neuroscience

Jeyda Hunt

Jeyda Hunt from Pembroke studied the MSc Research Methods with Cognitive Neuroscience She graduated in January 2016, winning the MSc Research Methods with Cognitive Neuroscience Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence. We asked her about her experiences of studying at Swansea University:

Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?

During my time studying my Undergraduate Psychology degree (at the University of Wales Trinity St David) I found the Neuroscience and Cognitive psychology modules fascinating. The Master’s course at Swansea University appealed due to its focus on combining both these elements of psychology.

Can you tell us about your course?

The course focused on both theoretical and practical components of Cognitive Neuroscience. The theoretical modules included research proposal assignments, giving us an opportunity to explore areas of Cognitive Neuroscience we found interesting. The practical modules gave us real-life experience of researching key areas in Cognitive Neuroscience, both at an individual and group level.

What part of the course did you enjoy the most?

I particularly enjoyed participating in other course mates' research projects. This gave me an opportunity to experience research 'on the other side' and also get some first-hand experience of the instruments used in Neuroscience (such as transcranial direct current stimulation and functional magnetic resolution imaging).

What’s been your highlight whilst studying at Swansea University?

The highlight was meeting people on the course who quickly became very firm friends. Making the transition from Undergraduate to Postgraduate was made so much easier with people to laugh with, air any worries, talk over queries and generally have a good support system during University.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to work in a field of research in Cognitive Neuroscience where I can not only apply the techniques I have learnt and improved through university but also gain insight into an area which I feel is personally relevant.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students?

I would recommend Swansea University due to its research facilities and teaching staff. Its location right by the beach also makes it an appealing location to study!
