Hannah Marie Jones, MSc Public Health and Health Promotion
Hannah, from Carmarthenshire, embarked on her course after developing a keen interest in Public Health during her undergraduate studies in Environmental Health at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
She said: "I chose to take a postgraduate qualification at Swansea University as there were limited jobs available in the field of Environmental Health and I wanted to widen my career opportunities."
"On the course, we covered many different aspects of public health and health promotion. We learnt about different concepts and theories of health promotion and how to critique a health promotion campaign. Other topics included: developing health promotional programmes, management and leadership, practice placement, health protection, epidemiology, research, and ethics - all linking to public health. We also did a 20,000 word dissertation. "
"I enjoyed the dissertation part the most as although it was stressful it was a very rewarding experience. I enjoyed conducting data collection and data analysis. I had not carried out qualitative research before doing my dissertation and I found it to be a valuable experience."
Hannah hopes to continue her studies, completing a PhD, and become a consultant iN Communicable Disease Control.
She adds: "This qualification has already helped my career as I currently work for Public Health Wales. I am also working on my Public Health Practitioner Portfolio and I am using some aspects of the course to meet some standards."
