Meshari Almalki from Saudi Arabia is studying the MSc Healthcare Management. We caught up with him to find out more about his experiences of studying at Swansea University...
What did you do prior to studying at Swansea University?
I was a teaching assistant at Umm-Alqura University in Mecca. It is the oldest University in Saudi Arabia. I was teaching healthcare systems and quality amongst other subjects.
Why did you choose to study for a postgraduate qualification at Swansea University?
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a boy. I found the Healthcare Management Master's to be the best programme with lots of variety.
Can you tell us more about your course?
The course is teaching me how to be a leader and provides a foundation to any healthcare system. The quality of the course is fantastic and it gives an overview of healthcare systems from around the world. I am learning how to be more scientific in my research and the structure of the course encourages you to read more and learn more. You are also able to choose to research the subjects that interest you.
What part of the course do you enjoy the most?
Leadership - the content has been interesting and the lecturer has been really good.
What has been your highlight whilst studying at Swansea University?
The help from the University's Academic Success Programme (ASP). It was so useful, teaching me how to write in an academic way. Also, the friends that I've made on the programme have been so helpful, theyve given me so much knowledge about life.
What are your plans for the future?
I will return to teaching and the healthcare system in Saudi Arabia. I want to serve my country, they have invested in me and I want to pay that back.
What advice would you give to students considering postgraduate study at Swansea University?
Go for it...there are so many advantages. Swansea University occupies a beautiful spot on the beach, it has new buildings and the way of teaching is excellent. There is a mutual respect between students and teachers.
