Foundation Programmes

Foundation programmes are designed for prospective international students who wish to improve their English language skills in the academic area in which they wish to study.

They are designed for international students who:

  • need to improve their language skills as a condition of entry to Swansea University OR
  • have already met the University’s English Language conditions, but who want to gain experience of UK academic expectations and academic study in English, in order to get a good start before beginning an academic programme at the College. 

 We offer the following foundation programmes:

English Language requirements

English language requirements for undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) usually IELTS 6.0 or approved equivalent, except Professional Programmes. For Postgraduate Level, the usual entry requirements start at IELTS 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in individual components, Research degrees have an entry requirement of 6.5.  If you do not hold an IELTS qualification, you may want to check our approved equivalent.  It is recommended you check the course page for accurate entry requirements.   

If you do not meet the minimum English Language requirement to study with us, you can study in our British Council accredited English Language Training Services (ELTS) language centre.  ELTS offer Academic English Pre-sessional, Summer General English, Cambridge English Exams and Tailor Made Short Programmes plus CELTA courses.
