I have always been passionate about caring for people.
Working alongside midwives as a Health Care Support Worker inspired me to follow my dreams so I applied for the midwifery degree at Swansea University.
What I love most about studying midwifery is the versatility that the course offers; it is split between 50% theory and 50% practice. We have a very good support system with the midwifery lecturing team which enables us to get the most out of our experience.
Each and every day on placement is filled with new experiences and learning opportunities – one of my favourite experiences as a student midwife was my first hands on delivery; it actually brought me to tears and I still feel that same joy at each delivery.
I am very passionate about providing women centred care and it is such a wonderful feeling being an advocate for women and facilitating their pregnancy and birth wishes.
The midwife is the lead professional for women who are well in pregnancy, supporting normality and ensuring the woman and her family have a positive, safe experience of pregnancy, birth and the early post-natal period. I want to be able to empower women and their families to be able to have the pregnancy and birth experience which they desire.
