Julaka Khalique, BSc Adult Nursing

What did you do prior to studying at Swansea University?

Prior studying at Swansea University, I was a stay at home mum, and when my children had reached a certain age, I decided that I would like to go back into studying.

Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?

I chose Swansea University, not only for convenience as I am Swansea born and bred, but also due to the state-of-the- art facilities that the College of Human and Health Science has to offer Nursing students to learn practical skills in their clinical practice suites.

Can you tell us about your course?

The Nursing Course is a very challenging but rewarding course, involving 2,300 hours of training in various clinical placements and 2,300 hours of theory and lectures.

What part of the course do you/did you enjoy the most?

What I enjoyed most about this course is meeting new friends, and sharing this experience has helped me build close friendships that will last a lifetime.

What’s been your highlight whilst studying at Swansea University?

The whole experience of being able to go back into studies at a later stage in my life and to go on to achieve 1st class honours has been my highlight. This would not have been possible without the support of my family, friends, lecturers and my tutor Dr Sherril Snelgrove, who I will be eternally grateful to.

What are your plans/hopes for the future?

My plans and hopes for the future are to continue to build my nursing expertise, and I believe that my current job in General ITU is the ideal place in which to do so. The training opportunities and support available in General ITU is fantastic.

I would also hope to further my Nursing career by going back to University to complete a Postgraduate Masters in the near future.

How will your studies help you pursue your chosen profession?

My studies will help me to always look for evidence based learning, and to research clinical changes as nursing procedures are constantly changing based on new findings. This will help ensure that the nursing care I provide is always up to date and the best for my patients.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students?

I would 100% recommend Swansea University to other students, the staff and lecturers are helpful, friendly and easily approachable. They are supportive and understanding and offer constructive feedback.

Academic support by far is the most useful resource for students, they offer indispensable support and make a huge difference to students overall academic abilities in regards to writing essays, researching materials and referencing.
