Level 6 Modules

To study at level 6 students need to have 120 level 5 credits, which must include the research and critical appraisal module, or an accepted equivalent.

All level 6 modules can be taken as stand-alone/short courses, by a range of health care professionals, or can form part of
a post-registration modular degree.

Some of the modules are optional and therefore will only run if there are sufficient numbers of students selecting them.

Operating department courses

The college is currently working with the theatre specialist trainers in order to develop and validate a competency based training programme for qualified staff working in the operating theatre departments .This programme will also work towards meeting the requirement of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI) (2010), for appropriately qualified assistants. The programme will be delivered in practice, with support from the University. It is anticipated that the module will be work based incorporating achievement of identified clinical competencies and theoretical assessments (60 credits).

For students with a first degree the qualification of graduate certificate will be awarded whilst students without a first degree will be able to use the 60 level 6 credits gained towards a BSc Nursing or Healthcare Practice.

Applicants Employed by Health Boards

Applicants employed by Hywel Dda Health Board or Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, who wish to receive financial assistance and/or study leave to attend courses, are advised to contact their managers before applying.

Overseas Academic Qualifications

Applicants applying for all programmes will need to submit copies of their certificates and transcripts from their awarding country and university so that UK comparability can be established. This will allow us to advise overseas and international students what level of study would be appropriate. These should be submitted to our admissions department at time of application.

If you don’t have a professional qualification and are not sure if you have the necessary credit points to study your chosen module, please email Mr Gareth Davies, Academic Services Officer on chhsadmissions@swansea.ac.uk to check your status.
