Academic Director - Dr Deborah Fitzsimmons BN (Hons, PhD
With over 17 years experience as a health services researcher, Deborah’s main expertise are in the development, use and interpretation of patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs); particularly health-related quality of life. She has contributed to a range of collaborative projects across the UK, Europe and South Africa and is currently involved in projects as a lead or co-applicant totalling £1.8 million. These projects range from dental public health through to cancer rehabilitation. Deborah utilises a broad range of methodologies and skills including qualitative research, systematic reviews and health economic evaluation in clinical trials.
Deborah also contributes to the delivery of teaching across a range of undergraduate and masters programmes within the College of Human and Health Sciences, leading the BSc and MSc modules in Health Economics. She continues to pursue her continued interest in cancer care by co-developing one of the first MSc Cancer Rehabilitation Modules in the UK. She is currently supervising five PhD students, and has supervised to completion a number of MSc, PhD and Professional Doctorate students.
