Undergraduate Study

Information for prospective students

Swansea’s History Department is one of the UK’s largest and admits around 250 new undergraduates every year.  The student body is made up of people from all parts of the UK along with a growing cohort of international students from European and North American universities.

The teaching staff is similarly diverse and includes academics from Canada, Germany, the USA and the UK.  With 20 full-time lecturers, we are able to offer a rich and varied menu of historical subjects that matches our diverse character.  All our staff have published widely, so our students explore history with scholars recognised nationally and internationally as experts in their fields.

We have a long and distinguished record as a centre of teaching and research and are committed to offering those who study with us an exciting and rigorous education.  We try to ensure that all our students leave not just with a good degree from a good university that will place them strongly in the job market, but also with a passion for history, a better understanding of how the past has shaped the world they live in, and with memories of an excellent experience.
