Centre for the History of Wales & its Borderlands
providing a focus for the activities of the historians of Wales at Swansea
The Centre for the History of Wales and its Borderlands provides a focus for the activities of the historians of Wales at Swansea. The historians of Wales are committed to a comparative approach in which the history of Wales is viewed against other Celtic regions, other coalfield societies (in Europe, America, and Asia), and the UK as a whole. We have strong interests in nineteenth- and twentieth-century urban history, in issues surrounding migration, demography, and national identity, and in the history of cultural activities and recreations. The medieval history of Wales is another area of particular specialism.
The Centre is home to a number of ongoing research projects by both staff and postgraduates. We offer research supervision on all aspects of the history of Wales at both MPhil and PhD level. We also contribute to a number of MA programmes, including the .
The Centre also hosts Wales@jiscmail.ac.uk, a Welsh history email discussion list.
