    Dr Matthew Frank Stevens, FRHistS, lecturer in the Department of History and Classics, was named by the American Society for Legal History as runner-up for the 2011 Donald W. Sutherland Prize for English Legal History, for his article ‘Failed Arbitrations Before the Court of Common Pleas: Cases Relating to London and Londoners, 1400–1468,’ published in volume 31 of the Journal of Legal History (2010), pp. 21–44.

     ‘The Sutherland Prize, named in honor of the late Donald W. Sutherland, a distinguished historian of the law of medieval England and a mentor of many students, is awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Sutherland Prize Committee, to the person or persons who wrote the best article on English legal history published in the previous year.’  For more information on the American Society for Legal History clcik here
