History Research Wales is a collaborative partnership arrangement established recently between History Departments at Aberystwyth University; Bangor University; Cardiff University; the University of Glamorgan; University of Wales, Lampeter; and Swansea University. This partnership brings together departments which in total have almost 100 members of academic staff, and which have an extensive range of collaborative links with institutions in the UK and overseas.
History Research Wales aims to build on the considerable existing strengths of individual departments by facilitating the development of a more robust national research environment in which historical studies of all types can flourish and achieve their full potential. It seeks to do this by encouraging greater levels of collaborative research activity between historians within and beyond Wales; establishing a national impact plan based upon knowledge transfer activities conducted with a wide range of non-HEI partners; fostering partnerships with social sciences, arts, humanities, and STEM subjects; and creating sustainable collaborative research training and development programmes for postgraduate students.
A series of events is being planned for Autumn 2009, and further information will be made available in due course. In the meantime, if you have any queries or wish to know more about History Research Wales, then please contact the Convenor, Professor Huw Bowen, email: h.v.bowen@swansea.ac.uk or telephone: +44 (0)1792 602350.
