The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise results and the Times Higher Education Supplement league table confirm that Swansea is the leading Welsh history department in Wales. The RAE panel judged 15% of our work to be ‘world leading’ and 50% to be ‘internationally excellent’ or better. Overall 90% of our research activity was in the top three categories. The THES league table places Swansea in the top half of the United Kingdom’s history departments. These significant advances since 2001 are testimony to the all round strength of the department and to its continuing development as a leading centre of historical research in the UK.
