Directorate Overview


Estates & Facilities Management (E&FM) is a multi-faceted professional services directorate led by Mr Craig Nowell.

The Directorate is responsible for the strategic and safe operational management of the University's physical estate and a broad range of services which impact daily on campus users and stakeholders; from staff and students to visitors and contractors.  

E&FM is organised into three focused and functionally aligned sections;

Commercial and Campus Services is led by Mr Paul Robinson and can be broken down into seven distinct areas each of which works to deliver outstanding, customer focussed services across the University;

Estate Services

Estate Services is led by Mr Ian MacPherson and is responsible for providing focused and specialist Estate/Facility Management Services and Capital Project Management capabilities.

The section comprises of Projects and Technical Services.


The multi disciplinary team works in partnership with consultants and contractors to deliver the Capital, Planned Maintenance and Minor Works Programmes. The Project Team brings together individuals with a wealth of experience from major construction projects across the globe.

Projects delivered by the team over the last year include the Data Science Building on the Singleton Campus, and the Energy Safety Research Institute and Innovation hub on the Bay Campus. The Team is working with colleagues across the Department to arrange the fit-out and occupation of all academic buildings on the Bay Campus.

The Team works on projects from planning and inception right through to occupation, providing a link between the University and the Construction Industry. It endeavours to attain the highest standards of design to provide an aesthetically pleasing, safe and secure environment in which the University can flourish.

The Team also provides technical support and advice to the Facilities Section and other University schools and departments. Fiona Nixon, Deputy Head of Estates and Head of Projects,  extn. 5822, is responsible for the effective delivery of this service.

The SHE Handbook produced in August 2015, is now available, and will help you become familiar with the University's Health & Safety rules and procedures.

Swansea University has agreed a new Health and Safety Policy which sets out our commitment to the management of the health and safety of our staff, students and others that use our premises. The policy is supported by a set of Policy Arrangements which will be added shortly.
