Swansea University

Industry Links

The School of Engineering has strong links with the industry internationally and within Wales. The interaction with industry takes many forms including direct funding for research projects, exchange of research staff, partnerships in networks or as part of larger projects, collaborative use of specialist equipment and advisory and consultancy services, as also the training of researchers.

Apart from tie-ups for research and teaching, the School also engages in direct knowledge transfer to industrial clients. Some of this work is carried out by the Centres of Excellence for Technology and Industrial Collaboration (CETICs) that are located within the School.

The Centre of Excellence scheme is an accreditation scheme managed by the Welsh Assembly Government and part financed by the European Union. The purpose of this scheme is to help companies to benefit from the best industrially relevant expertise and facilities from universities within Wales. The CETICs within the School cover:

In addition numerous projects within the School are funded by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Knowledge Exploitation Fund. These have already resulted in the formation of several spin-out companies.

Furthermore the School runs a number of workshops and training courses throughout the year that are specifically designed to meet the needs of personnel already employed in industry.
