Swansea University

About Us

In 2001, Engineering at Swansea was reconfigured to form an integrated School, replacing the former Departments of Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Materials and Mechanical Engineering. The rationale was to address future challenges within Engineering where a multidisciplinary approach is crucial and has proven to be extremely successful from both teaching and research perspectives. To facilitate this, the School was reorganised into 3 research centres, Civil and Computational Engineering (C2EC), Materials Research Centre (MRC) and the Multidisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre (MNC). Teaching is arranged in13 traditional and emerging Disciplines, coordinated by 6 Teaching Portfolio Directors and a Head of Learning and Teaching. All activities within the School are supported by four Teams: Technical Facilities, Recruitment and Marketing, Administration and Finance.

Outstanding Quality of Research and Teaching

The School possesses the highest ratings in research and teaching quality. All our undergraduate courses hold the 'excellent' rating for teaching and are accredited by the appropriate professional institution. In the recent Research Assessment Exercise for 2008, the School was ranked the best in Wales and 8th in the UK.
