The services that we offer to current students and alumni  include:

  • Individual advice and guidance
  • A programme of events comprising employers' presentations and employability workshops
  • Annual Careers Fairs on both campuses
  • A range of subscription-based information resources and interactive tools
  • Help with finding work experience opportunities

Copies of the leaflet describing our services and main contact points can be obtained from the service desks in the libraries on each campus and a PDF of this can be downloaded here:  Careers and Employability Services leaflet 2015-16 For detailed information visit our student facing website at myuni.swan.ac.uk.

The Swansea Employability Academy Team agrees an annual Service Level Agreement with each College or School to identify key areas of work and types of support that we will provide.  You can download our current Statement of Service here:   Statement of Service - English version, last updated on 09/02/16 .

The Teaching Quality Manual and the Handbook for Personal Tutors also include key information relating to Employability in the curriculum.

Information on our Work Placements Programmes for Academic Staff

Swansea Paid Internship Network

Through our Paid Internship Network we seek to connect employers to students for 4 week graduate level placements. We match students individually to each role based on your criteria as an employer and prior to the placement each student is assessed and attends an employability boot-camp to ensure that both the business and the student get the most out of the internship. Students are paid at minimum wage for a 21 year old by their employer, and employers are able to claim £455 (half the salary) back from the university. The SPIN programme runs during the summer vacation period (although they can occur part-time during term).

SPIN Placements are available to internal departments of the university. Please see our employer page for full details and documentation.

WOW - Week of Work

Our Week of Work programme offers students a taster of a wide range of businesses and gives employers an opportunity to bring students’ dynamic talent to the business for shorter projects.  We match students from the same pool as our SPIN programme so they have all been assessed and have all attended employability boot-camp prior to their unpaid week of shadowing or role/project assistance work in your company. The Week of Work programme runs during January and the summer vacation period (although they can occur part-time during term).

Week of Work placements are available to internal departments of the university. Please see our employer page for full details and documentation.

Santander Placements

The Santander Universities 'SME Internship' and 'Work Placement' Programmes provide recent graduates and undergraduates with paid work experience within local SMEs. Santander contributes £1,500 (50% of the overall graduate salary) towards 3-month graduate internships (that can occur at any point of the year) or 100% of the salary for undergraduates partaking in 1-month placements, during the summer vacation period.

Santander Universities placements are not available to internal departments of the university, however information is provided here in case you are looking to promote these placements to your contacts. Please see our employer page for full details and documentation.
