Cambridge English Preparation Courses
ELTS offers preparation for a number of English language exams and teacher training awards.
Teacher Training Awards (CELTA and TKT: Practical)
For information about our full-time and part-time CELTA courses, please visit our CELTA Teaching Training page.
TKT : Practical is currently offered as an additional option for students enrolled on the College of Arts and Humanities MA TEFL programme who take the ENAM00 module. It focuses on planning and teaching skills and gives teachers certification for their practical teaching abilities.
TKT: Practical aims to provide candidates with the opportunity to:
• apply their knowledge of planning and teaching to a practical classroom situation
• plan and deliver a lesson/lessons which focus on language and skills development
• set up and manage learning activities designed to achieve specified aims
• manage the classroom environment in a way that encourages learner participation.
English Language Exams
TKT: Practical is assessed by a final teaching practice assessment.
Observation of class teaching
One 40-minute session or two 20-minute sessions
The test takes the format of an observation of 40 minutes of teaching: either one 40- minute session or two 20-minute sessions, of which one can be peer teaching. A lesson plan template is provided by Cambridge English Language Assessment for the teacher to complete. The completed plan is also assessed. Results for TKT are described as being in one of four band scores, 1-4. Results will normally be available around two weeks after the test.
