Welcome to English for University Studies
About the course
The English for University Studies Course is a full-time course specifically designed for international students who need to improve their English before entering a UK university at Foundation, Undergraduate or Postgraduate level and/or wish to improve their level of general English with a more academic focus.
This course aims to develop academic and general English skills necessary for students to study at a higher level. These include reading techniques, essay planning, academic writing and exam preparation.
The 20 hour per week course includes:
- General English with a focus on grammar and vocabulary.
- Study Skills
- IELTS practice
- Academic Skills syllabus.
- 1 hour of optional subject specific teaching in subjects including engineering and business.
- Advice and guidance on entry into higher education and career development
There are 4 entry points to the course:
- October
- January
- April
- June
Students needing to improve their level of English before entering University should attend 1 term of the course for each IELTS .5 they need to improve (see table below).
ELTS cannot guarantee that all students will attain the required level within the recommended time .
Students who do not intend to enter the University can join the course at any of the 4 entry points (October, January, April and June).
The minimum entry requirement is IELTS 4.0 (or equivalent) and
documentary proof must be provided.
