Welcome to the under 18 work experience page. Whether you are from a local school, or from further afield, you will find a work experience placement at the Egypt Center and interesting and worthwhile experience. In fact so many people love their placements here, they become young volunteers when they finish!  A work placement at the Egypt Center is ideal for those hoping to enter a heritage career, are interested in history, or simply want to get some practical work experience working with lots of different people in a customer focused role.

What will I do in my Work Placement?

The emphasis at the Egypt Centre is to experience "real life" in a museum so as a work experience placement at the Egypt Centre, you will be a "Gallery Assistant". While you are here, you will be given a booklet to complete, this will help you gain independent research skills, and give you practical knowledge of Ancient Egypt and our collection. You will learn how to supervise galleries and the basics of practical preventative conservation. You will learn how to deliver some of our activities to visitors, and you will be expected to talk and interact with visitors to give them a good visitor experience while at the Egypt Centre.

When can I do my work Placement?

Placements are for a minimum of 1 week, . They are available any time of the year.  Please be aware that we can only accept a limited number of under 18 work experience placements at one time, so in busy periods please book early to avoid disappointment.

Work experience placements run from Tuesday- Saturday 9.30-4pm. In order to be accepted onto the work experience placement, you must be able to work everyday, including the Saturday.

How do I take part?

Simply fill in the application form  and get your parents to sign the consent form and post them back to Ashleigh Taylor the Volunteer Manager.
