The Egypt Centre aims to collect, interpret and care for Egyptian
archaeological material and related documentation for the education and entertainment of
the University and the wider public now and in the future. This exciting collection of Egyptian antiquities is open to all with free admission. School parties are very welcome by prior arrangement. See on display over one thousand objects dating from pre 3500 BC to AD 500. From the painted coffin of a lady musician from Thebes, beautiful bead necklaces from the time of Tutankhamun, statues of gods and goddesses, to everyday objects used by the ancient Egyptian such as pottery, tools and weapons. A Brief History Of The Collection. The Egypt Centre consists of part of a collection by the pharmacist Sir Henry Wellcome from the turn of the century, it has been in the keeping of University of Wales, Swansea since the early 1970s. After receiving grants from the European Regional Development Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund a building was constructed to house the collection, making it available for public admission. Opening Times. The Egypt Centre is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. Friends Of the Egypt Centre. There is a friends group for the Egypt Centre which involves students and non-students in the work of the Centre. School Visits. |
