Groups covered
The Egypt Centre welcomes school parties and groups from early years, primary and secondary to graduate and post-graduates and special needs students.
The maximum amount of pupils we can receive in any one visit is 40 due to the hands-on element of the activities and for health and safety.
Safety Information
You will need to do your own risk analysis but safety information is provided here.
Costs
While general admission is free, we make a small charge for activities which we lead.
We provide all materials including pencils, clip boards and photocopied sheets for each student. All schools need to bring is lunch as a pre-booked lunch area is also available. The cost is £2 per pupil and this covers photocopying charges and the cost of replacement materials. We believe this is great value for a completely museum-led experience where teachers can relax and enjoy the day out with their students!
All ages
Did you know that the Egypt Centre offers much more than teaching children about Egyptian history? We have updated our activities to include; writing, mathematics and measuring, role-play, games, which incorporate the National Curriculum common requirements and are skills based.
We have many sessions to choose from with all day (10am to 2.30pm) or half day (10am-12.00 noon or 12.30pm-2.30pm) sessions including history, art, mathematics or medicine! We can also cater for individual requirements. However please book in advance to make sure that someone is here to help you. Phone Wendy on (01792) 295960 or e-mail w.r.goodridge@swansea.ac.uk.
The children will not be expected to work on their own but take part in the activities with the Centre’s assistants. Most of our staff working with your children are unpaid volunteers who are CRB enhanced police checked and are fully trained in leading activities.
We offer KS1-3 mathematics and a free travelling exhibition with booklet.
We also have a gift shop with 'Egyptian' items starting from 20p. We offer a goody bag facility for visiting schools which takes the hassle out of your visit!
We welcome special needs students and work closely with schools and institutions to offer a variety of activities delivered at appropriate levels to suit individual needs. The museum has full disabled access.
We can provide KS1 early years activities which are half day only, KS1 Primary (half or all day) and KS2 half or all day.
EARLY YEARS KS1 TEACHER'S PACK
The packs are designed for your information on what the children do and to act as a reminder of the day.
Our Saturday Out of School Hours workshops are free for socially or economically disadvantaged pupils. These are organised on a slightly different basis to our other school activities and we collect children from school and provide lunch.
