Safeguarding
CRB
and ISA registration
The Museum will ensure that all persons working within, and for, the Museum, and who come into contact with vulnerable groups are suitable for the position by obtaining relevant criminal history records and character references.
Criminal Records Bureau Checks (CRB)
All paid staff in the museum are required to undertake a fully enhance CRB check.
All adults that apply for a work placement, or to become a volunteer, as a condition of admission, are also required to undertake a fully enhance CRB check. This is free for all volunteer placements. In some exceptional circumstances, the Egypt Centre may accept a CRB from another organisation, if it is under 3 months old, and of a similar role to the museum role applied for. This is at the discretion of the Volunteer Manager.
All International work experience placements are required to supply an up to date CRB equivalent from their country of origin prior to being accepted on our work placement scheme.
All external organisations will be required to sign a declaration confirming that the organisation has obtained appropriate checks on their staff and volunteers before permitting such individuals to have access to vulnerable people.
Those who are not suitable will not be accepted into the Museum.
Independent Safeguarding Authority registration.
ISA registration is a new legal requirement for all organisations that work with vulnerable groups under certain conditions. The Egypt Centre undertakes 'regulated' activities and therefore must ensure that they comply with the new requirements.
As of July 2010, all people that work, or volunteer within these organisations and roles will have to apply to be "ISA registered". All applicants will go through check similar to a CRB. If they are unsuitable to work with vulnerable they will go onto a barred list that will be accessible to employers and other organisations. Once registered, the individual are registered for life and any updates are sent automatically to the relevant organisations, including the organisation that the person is a member or employee of
All employers will have a legal obligation to check this list BEFORE they allow any individual to start work.
There is no differentiation between paid employees and volunteers in terms of registration however volunteers will not have to pay for the registration.
The Egypt Centre will guide all applicants through the process when they apply.
