Target Audience

This session is aimed at anyone who needs to manage risks in a controlled fashion

Overview

When a group of people work together to achieve common objectives, they should have a risk register. This session will explain simple approaches to managing risks and also provide guidance on University practices in regard to risk management.

This session includes practical exercises and will cover :

  • why you should create a risk register
  • how to identify risks
  • how to evaluate risks
  • approaches to mitigating risks
  • what actions you should be performing on a regular basis to keep the risk register up to date
  • an explanation of the University Risk Management Policy
  • an explanation of University risk management practices including escalation processes
  • an explanation of the University online risk register tool
  • University approach to the risk assessment of projects or proposals
  • many hints and tips to be more successful in the active management of risks  

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, participants will : 

  • Have an understanding of the University policy on risk management
  • Be able to create and maintain a risk register
  • Be able to describe the processes necessary to follow for project risk assessment reviews
