This session is aimed at all new project managers

Overview

This session is aimed at all new project managers. This induction covers all project management competence elements and provides a description of the activity to be performed by a project manager at the University. The degree of conformance will depend on the type of project but this session will provide an overview of all aspects of project management at the university and will make reference to the APM Body of Knowledge and APM Competence Framework.

The session will cover:

  • The definition of a project and a programme
  • APM (Association for Project Management) Body of Knowledge
  • Swansea University project management competencies based on the APM Competence Framework
  • Swansea University Project Management Framework (PMF)
  • The project lifecycle and descriptions of all stages
  • University governance of projects
  • Templates for key project management work products
  • Guidance on project filing structures 

Learning Outcomes

  • At the end of the session, participants will:
  • Understand how to manage a project at Swansea University
  • Have an awareness of the content of Swansea University PMF
  • Have an awareness of the content of the APM Body of Knowledge
  • Have an awareness of Swansea University’s APM Competencies
  • Understand the stages in the project life cycle
  • Understand the steps to take within each stage
