HE Certificates and Diplomas

In order to achieve a Certificate or Diploma you will have to study and complete some compulsory 10 or 20 credit modules within the subject area and submit an extended essay or project.

Credits are nationally recognised qualifications and can be used towards HE awards such as Certificate, Diploma or Degree.  Swansea University has adopted those used by the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) as this enables recognition and comparison of achievements from all types of education and training activity.

  • FHEQ level 4 modules are equivalent to the standard taught at the first year of a degree;
  • FHEQ level 5 modules are equivalent to the standard taught at the second year of a degree.

When you have achieved your credits, you will be invited to receive your Swansea University Certificate or Diploma at a graduation ceremony.

  • With 120 credits at Level 4, you will be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education
  • With 120 credits at Level 5, you will be awarded the Diploma of Higher Education (you will need to already have a Certificate of HE or equivalent).

It is possible to use our modules to progress on to an undergraduate programme.  They provide recent evidence of your ability to study at degree level, whether or not you have studied at ‘A’ level in the past.  If you wish any modules to be credited towards your degree they will have to match modules within the degree programme.  If you are thinking about going on to study an undergraduate degree it is a good idea to speak to one of our team.
