The Perils of Liberty: Wartime Legislation and the U.S. Constitution, 1917-1919 - Dr Regina Poertner
This talk investigates the legal fall-out from war-time paranoia and ‘red scare’ in the United States in the First World War and its immediate aftermath. The resulting legislation dealt with crimes as diverse and potentially elusive as obstruction of recruitment, active or passive civil and military disobedience, espionage, sedition, and trading with the enemy.
Admission is free. Seating is limited at some lectures so to avoid disappointment, please contact us in advance to book your place - 01792 602211 firstname.lastname@example.org
