Swansea University has a strong campus-based student community, so there are always events and activities going on. Whether you like to play team sports, fancy yourself as a budding journalist or have a passionate interest in the Arts, there is usually something organised on campus for you to try.
From Visual Arts to Poker, Real Ale to Gospel, we're confident that the Students' Union has a society for you and if it doesn't, create one! Becoming a member of a society can be a great way to meet like-minded people and to make new friends.
The Students' Union supports over 80 societies, where you can attend events or play a lead role in organising the society itself.
All societies are represented during Fresher's Week at the Fresher's Fayre and this can be a great opportunity to meet some of the existing members and find out what each society has to offer. For the full list of societies and for more information, please visit the Students' Union website.
There are also the student-run newspaper, Waterfront, magazine, Front, and Waterfront Online website, which are run by a large team of student writers, photographers, designers and web developers.
Students can volunteer to get involved with any of these media and will be given training and help to develop their journalistic skills. Practical work experience is also available, both on the student publications themselves and in outside organisations. Many ex-Waterfronters now work in the media - with several working for the BBC. Of course, students who simply want to write for fun are also welcome!
There is a student radio station based on campus. Xtreme 1431am has both a live and a recording studio, where students can host and produce their own shows. Anyone is welcome to get involved and past members of the Xtreme radio Society have gone on to have successful careers in radio. Xtreme works closely with BBC radio to provide training for its members.
