Ian was appointed Deputy Director of Estates [Facilities] in January 2000, having previously been Site Services Manger since 1995.

His main areas of operation are the provision and maintenance of all non-residential facilities services to support the needs of the University's academic and administrative departments, students, and visitors, and to manage and develop the estate to meet the strategic aims and aspirations of the University.

Ian has worked in the Construction and Facilities Management sector for nearly 40 years, and has experience at all levels from operational through supervisory and middle management positions, to a senior management role. This breadth of experience has provided Ian with a unique insight and understanding of all aspects of strategic and operational management both in Facilities Mangement and Construction, and a strong Customer Focused approach to his work.

Earlier in his career Ian was a qualified Plumber and Heating Engineer and successfully ran his own company until 1990. Ian subsequently worked for South Glamorgan County Council on a number of prestigious projects including new build schools, a new arrivals hall at Cardiff Airport,  and other major capital projects. Ian took the opportunity to undertake further academic study cumulating with a 1st Class Degree in Contruction Management & Technology from the University of Glamorgan.

Ian is a Member of the British Institute of Facilities Management and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building.

Mark graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1996 with a BA in History. After graduating he spent three years working as the Timetabling and Examinations Officer at the School of East European Studies (SSEES), University of London during which time he also successfully completed an MA in Slavonic and East European Studies, specializing in Russia and the former Soviet Union, at University College London.

In 1999 Mark moved from SSEES to Kings College London (KCL) where he set up and then managed the Timetabling and Room Bookings Office following the institution’s merger with the United Medical and Dental School. Mark remained at KCL until taking up the post of Facilities and Space Planning Manager at Swansea University in June 2004.

Alan has been a member of the Estates Team since 1990, joining the University following several years experience with the City Council and the local Health Authority. He has been a corporate member of the Chartered Institute of Building ~(MCIOB)~ since 1986 and has been responsible for the successful delivery of several high profile developments on Singleton Campus such as the construction of the Haldane Building and substantial refurbishments involving the relocation of Computer Science and Maths to Faraday and Talbot Buildings respectively. Alan has been more recently assigned to the Facilities section of the Estates Department where his role involves the procurement and management of a wide range of Reactive and Planned Maintenance and Minor Works Projects.
