HCI: Future Interaction Technology

The Department of Computer Science at Swansea is building a new research group, the Future Interaction Technology Laboratory, to research and develop new technologies for interactive systems. For the latest details, please see FIT Lab's web site at www.fitlab.eu.

The Future Interaction Technologies Laboratory, or FIT Lab, was founded by Prof Harold Thimbleby, and is doing leading work on making the future safer and more enjoyable, particularly by improving the quality of interactive devices - from web sites to medical devices, and from digital libraries to mobile computing in South Africa. Three of the staff in the FIT Lab have worked at Waikato University, New Zealand, with Prof Ian Witten FRSNZ. In this area of work, we are collaborating closely with the award-winning digital library project Greenstone, which has been adopted by the UN. Indeed, two of our team - Dr George Buchanan and Prof Thimbleby were made honorary Fellows of the Royal Society of Arts for their work on web site development. Dr Buchanan has won several prizes at conferences for his work, including the ACM Ted Nelson prize in 2004 and the best paper award at the Australian Computer Science Conference, 2006.
