Undergraduate Degree Content and Modules

Every year at Swansea you will take a number of Modules totalling 120 Credits. Most modules are 10 Credits, though some are 20, so you generally take 11 or 12 modules a year.

For degrees that consist mainly of computing, you will take very nearly all Computer Science modules. For degrees that combine computing with another subject, you will obviously have to drop some Computer Science modules to make room for the other subject. As a general guide, for degrees that combine computing with another subject you can expect to take between one half and two thirds Computer Science, with the remainder made up from the other subject.

You can find details of the modules available in each year here:

There is also a Foundation year available to International students.

You can expect to be in about 12 lectures every week, as well as a tutorial. In the first year, you will also have an afternoon laboratory class to support the modules on programming. You are obviously expected to work outside lectures, tutorials and laboratories on your own - both on assigned coursework and on studying, and improving your knowledge of, the modules your are currently taking.

Modules are examined after the term in which they are taught - so for the modules you take from October to December, you can expect an exam in January; and for the modules you take from February to April, you can expect an exam in May.

Most modules are assessed mainly by exam (usually 80%) and partly by coursework (usually 20%). There are exceptions: a few modules have no exam, and a few have no coursework. In the third year, for most students a quarter of the assessment of the year is made up of a large project.
