The Centre’s approach is inter-disciplinary to understand relationships between international relations and global political economy, national policy regimes, and migrants’ own perceptions and experiences.
Key areas of expertise include:
The scale and composition of internal and international migration flows and the dynamics of these population movements;
- The social, economic, and political causes of international migration, particularly forced migration;
- The migration of separated children;
- Gender issues in the migration process;
- UK, regional and UN policy responses to international migration;
- The political, economic, social and urban consequences of migration;
- Integration, social cohesion, and migrant identity;
- Public and political attitudes towards asylum and migration issues;
- The linkages between migration and broader development processes.
The Centre’s Research Associates have considerable regional expertise which includes Wales and the UK, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.
