Areas of Expertise

The Centre’s approach is inter-disciplinary to understand relationships between international relations and global political economy, national policy regimes, and migrants’ own perceptions and experiences.

Key areas of expertise include:

 The scale and composition of internal and international migration flows and the dynamics of these population movements;

  • The social, economic, and political causes of international migration, particularly forced migration;
  • The migration of separated children;
  • Gender issues in the migration process;
  • UK, regional and UN policy responses to international migration;
  • The political, economic, social and urban consequences of migration;
  • Integration, social cohesion, and migrant identity;
  • Public and political attitudes towards asylum and migration issues;
  • The linkages between migration and broader development processes.

The Centre’s Research Associates have considerable regional expertise which includes Wales and the UK, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.
