Making Appointments with Careers Advisers

Our online appointment booking system is only available for students currently registered at Swansea University.  However, we do also provide services for our alumni, and further details can be found on our services for graduates page.   If you are a student or graduate of another university, please contact your own institution, or you could also contact Careers Wales if you are resident in Wales.

You can discuss any careers topic with an Adviser, but to get the most out of an appointment you will need do some preparation beforehand.  For example, this might be writing a draft of your CV or looking up some relevant information using, say, this site or the Graduate Prospects website at http://www.prospects.ac.uk.  Both sites are excellent starting points for help with  exploring types of jobs, getting work experience, writing CVs and lots more.

Information for students about booking appointments:

Please use our online system as the first option for booking an appointment with an Adviser, but if you are unable to do this you can telephone our Helpdesk on 01792 513266, or call in at Careers and Employability.  Our short video on making appointments explains how to use the online booking system.

To book online you'll need to register, which is very simple to do.  Just follow the link to 'View Careers Calendar', then 'Show Regular Activities', then 'Duty Rota'.  Simply find the date you want (on the day or 24 hours in advance) and choose a time.  Click here to book online.

If you are unable to attend an appointment it is essential that you cancel it as soon as possible, either through the online system or by telephoning 01792 513266, so that the time can be allocated to someone else who needs it. This is particularly important at the moment because the Careers and Employability Service is currently experiencing a shortage of staff which, of course, means fewer appointments are available. If you fail to attend an appointment on more than two occasions without letting us know, then we regret that we will not be able to offer you any further appointments with a Careers Adviser for the foreseeable future.

Appointments are available specifically so that students and graduates can have a discussion with an adviser at short notice.  They are for 20 minutes, are available Monday to Friday from 10.00 am to 3.40 pm and are bookable for the same day/next day.  You should therefore be able to see an adviser within 24 hours.

Please bear in mind the time, but you can book as many additional appointments as you need.  If appropriate, the adviser may arrange a longer guidance consultation for you.

Special circumstances:  If you are travelling from outside Swansea, or have special circumstances (eg if you have a disability, are a part-time student or are a first year student thinking about changing your course), please tell the receptionist who will make any necessary specific arrangements.

Remember, if you are a student registered at Swansea University you can also get online help with Careers questions through our e-guidance system.
