About the project

What is the Student Activity Centre?

The Student Activity Centre forms part of a new Student Precinct at the centre of the Singleton Park Campus which is a major investment in the student experience at Swansea University. The Student Activity Centre will provide a ‘one stop shop’ in which students can socialise, learn, get access to advice and guidance, study and meet. In addition, the Student Activity Centre will provide meeting spaces, a café bar, commercial and retail spaces and catering facilities.

Why is Swansea University investing in student facilities?

The Student Activity Centre will provide our students with brand new support, social and study facilities fit for the 21st century. It will bring all facilities together in one building, right in the heart of campus which will open in Spring 2020.

How is the Student Activity Centre being funded?

The project is being funded by the University through a European Investment Bank loan. Phase 1 of the Student Activity Centre will cost approximately £30m.

Construction of the Student Activity Centre

Where is the Student Activity Centre being build and why?

The Student Activity Centre is being built on the site of the Digital Technium which will be demolished at the end of 2018 academic year, during the summer recess. Construction of the Student Activity Centre will start before the end of 2018, with the building being completed in Spring 2020.

Why is the Digital Techium Building being demolished?

The existing building does not offer sufficient floor space or adequate room sizes for all of the planned facilities which will make up the Student Activity Centre.
