Algal Biotechnology for Wales

  • What is the Algal Knowledge Transfer Centre?

    Launched in Spring 2010 and funded by the Welsh Government "Academia for Business" (A4B), the Algal Biotechnology Knowledge Transfer Centre (KTC) was set up to provide an interface between academia and Welsh businesses interested in working in the algal biotechnology sector.

    Through the Algal KTC, enterprises have access to research & development, cutting-edge facilities and expertise that are both current and relevant to commercial exploitation of microalgae, putting Wales at the cutting edge of knowledge transfer in this area within the UK.

    The project, based at the Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture Research (CSAR) at Swansea University, can provide businesses with:

    • up-to-date information and advice on microalgal bio-technologies, regulatory frameworks and markets;
    • access to industry-focused research and technological development to assist with the development of new products, processes, and services;
    • access to demonstration and training facilities.
