How KTPs work

Any size business can take part in a KTP from micro sized business (as long as there are more than 3 full time members of staff) to large multinational companies, Charities and organisations such as Local NHS Trusts.

By contacting the Department of Research and Innovation at Swansea University we will introduce you with the right academic at Swansea University and facilitate an initial meeting with yourself, the academic and the local KTP Advisor.  We will advise you on the type of projects available, funds available, the application process and requirements from your business.

We will then submit the application formally to the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) . Once approved we help recruit the associate to work on the project . Typically, they are employed by the knowledge base partner but work in your business to manage the project, apply their own knowledge and ensure that the expertise of the knowledge base partner is embedded into your business.

Academics from the knowledge base remain closely involved throughout the project, working with people to contribute their own knowledge and experience. They will spend the equivalent of at least half a day each week with you and your KTP Associate.
