About Me

After graduating from Swansea University with BSc Marine Biology in 2014, I decided to take a year out to attain more field experience before going on to do a masters.  Over the course of the year I worked as a Marine Assistant Research officer in Tanzania and as a field assistant in Greece and completed a Dive Master internship in Ireland. Now doing a Masters of Research back in Swansea University, my main research interests are the mitigation of ocean acidification.

Currently, I am researching how macroalgae could be used to mitigate ocean acidification. This could be very important in the coming years, as more carbon dioxide is released into our atmosphere, the oceans are becoming more acidic. The decrease in pH has been shown to negatively affect many calcifying marine organisms such as coral. We need to find ways to reduce the acidity of the ocean to protect such foundation species.

Areas of Expertise

  • Ocean Acidification
  • Seagrass meadows and coral reef ecology
  • Conservation of aquatic resources
  • Field survey techniques
