Course Overview

Within the Swansea and West Wales region, there are freely available opportunities enabling small, medium-sized and large private businesses to develop their employees’ Welsh language skills. These flexible learning opportunities may include campus-based provision at Swansea University, classes based at local or community level, and – dependent on group numbers of 5+ - it may also be possible to provide in-house delivery for company staff.

 The first route offered is designed for beginners - people who are possibly being exposed to the Welsh language for the very first time.  A particular focus is placed here on aural communication, and use of the language in social and professionally relevant situations. The course will also aim to develop students’ confidence to communicate through basic written Welsh. However, the main aim will be to enable participants to apply their new linguistic and communicative skills within a business or workplace context.  Also explored within the course might be particular linguistic differences and cultural sensitivities that may influence successful personal interactions or business relationships.

The core learning activities for beginners will help to:

• develop and improve competence in a range of everyday communicative situations in the workplace;

• acquire the basic structure and work-related vocabulary of the language;

• engage in basic workplace or business related conversations in Welsh and exchange information about yourself, your professional role and your company;

• perform basic communicative interaction (e.g. meeting and greeting, conveying and gathering information) and,

• acquire a better understanding and appreciation of cultural differences that may help to avoid failures of miscommunication that sometimes may lead to negative consequences.

 The second type of provision builds on a similar emphasis of workplace challenges, but caters for: more advanced Welsh learners; for Welsh-speakers who may lack confidence in their day-to-day use of the language, or for Welsh-speakers who simply want to improve their Welsh.

Gorolwg Cŵrs

O fewn rhanbarth Abertawe a Gorllewin Cymru, mae cyfleoedd ar gael am ddim i alluogi busnesau preifat bychain, canolig a mawr i ddatblygu hyfedredd eu gweithwyr i ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg. Gall y cyfleon addysgiadol hyblyg yma olygu darpariaeth ar gampws Prifysgol Abertawe, gwersi ar lefel lleol a chymunedol, neu – yn ddibynnol ar grwpiau o 5+ – gellir trefnu i gyflwyno darpariaeth fewnol (in-house) i gwmnïau hyd yn oed.

Cynlluniwyd y llwybr cyntaf ar gyfer dechreuwyr – pobl sydd o bosib yn cael eu cyflwyno i’r iaith Gymraeg am y tro cyntaf. Rhoddir pwyslais amlwg ar gyfathrebu llafar a defnydd o’r Gymraeg mewn sefyllfaoedd cymdeithasol a phroffesiynol. Bydd y cwrs hefyd yn datblygu hyder y myfyrwyr i ysgrifennu mewn Cymraeg elfennol. Y prif fwriad, fodd bynnag, yw galluogi’r cyfranogwyr i ddefnyddio eu sgiliau iaith a chyfathrebu newydd mewn cyd-destun busnes neu weithle.  Codir ymwybyddiaeth hefyd ynghylch gwahaniaethau ieithyddol a diwylliannol a allasai effeithio ar ryngweithredu personol llwyddiannus neu gysylltiadau busnes.

Bydd y gweithgareddau dysgu creiddiol yn cynorthwyo i:

• ddatblygu a gwella hyfedredd mewn ystod o sefyllfaoedd cyfathrebu dyddiol yn y gweithle;

• caffael strwythur elfennol a geirfa sy’n gysylltiedig â’r gwaith;

• ymroi i sgyrsiau elfennol y gweithle neu sgwrs Gymraeg sy’n gysylltiedig â busnes , a chyfnewid gwybodaeth amdanoch eich hunain, eich rôl galwedigaethol a’ch cwmni;

• rhyngweithredu drwy gyfrwng cyfathrebu elfennol (e.e. cyfarfod a chyfarch, cywain a throsglwyddo gwybodaeth), a

• chael gwell dealltwriaeth  a gwerthfawrogiad o wahaniaethau diwylliannol a all fod o gymorth wrth osgoi methiannau yn sgil diffygion cyfathrebu allasai arwain at ganlyniadau negyddol.

Mae’r ail fath o ddarpariaeth yn adeiladu ar bwyslais creiddiol tebyg, gan ganolbwyntio ar heriau sy’n ymwneud â’r gweithle, ond sy’n cael ei anelu at:  ddysgwyr mwy medrus; siaradwyr Cymraeg sydd o bosib wedi colli hyder i ddefnyddio’r iaith o ddydd i ddydd, neu ar gyfer siaradwyr Cymraeg sy’n dymuno gloywi neu wella safon eu Cymraeg.

Byddai Swyddogion TILT a thiwtoriaid cwrs ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe yn falch iawn i gynghori grwpiau neu unigolion ynglŷn â’r camau gweithredu mwyaf priodol ar eu cyfer.
