Translation Tools Advanced
This module is designed to give translators practical experience an industry-standard Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tool increasingly in demand in the translation professions today namely SDL Trados Studio 2014, and to facilitate attainment of industry accreditation.
The student is likely to be an employee of a translation service provider or a freelance translator. It is likely that some experience working as a translator is already in place, although this is not essential. Formal qualifications are not an entry requirement for this course, however participants would benefit from having already completed the TILT Translation Tools course (module code MLTMP01).
Taught using distance learning methods and using the latest software, the module takes students from a basic level of IT to being expert users and have the opportunity to complete SDL Trados certification.
Enabling translators to enhance their professional practice and to respond to the demands of the industry in order to improve employability, increase economic viability and become sustainable, now and in the future.
By the end of this module, students will:
Achieve a high level of expertise in the use of a market leading CAT tool.
Understand the advantages and disadvantages of the application of CAT in their business or professional practice.
Have the opportunity to gain industry standard certification.
This module is only available to Associate Students.
Participants are normally expected to have completed the TILT Translation Tools course (module code MLTMP01), however this is not a compulsory requirement if the student already has substantial skills and/or experience in CAT tools.
TILT provides work-based learning to participants from translation companies, including self-employed or freelance contractors, those who are experienced and established, or just starting out.
Participants will be awarded and additional certificate of completion by Swansea University providing that they are successful in all of the Trados Exams.
